Forest School
At Filleigh School we offer children in Y1-Y6 the opportunity to take part in Forest School Activities with our qualified Forest School Leader. We believe there are many benefits for children through encouraging them to experience the enjoyment of the great outdoors: it has been proven to increase both their physical and mental well-being.
We have a wonderful outdoor learning area within our school grounds where children are encouraged to develop their mindful use of different senses. They are encouraged to use their creativeness through imaginative paly and through completing art activities working with natural materials such as clay, leaves and sticks to create outdoor woodland art sculptures.
Activities in the outdoors strengthens children’s physical development. Fun activities such as ‘slacklining’ focuses on the development of core strength, balance, gross and fine motor skills.
Teamwork and communication skills are very much a part of Forest School Learning and these skills are also vital in numerous life-long situations.
At the end of each session children are asked to reflect upon and share their experiences within the group which helps them to build respect for everyone.
